Vijayawada city continues to be in flood waters for the third consecutive day on Tuesday. People are starving for food, water and milk. There is no power supply for the third consecutive day. Though boats were brought to the city, they are limited to main roads and not going into the interior areas.

People are caught up on the first floors of the buildings in Payakapuram, Ajitsinghnagar, Prakashnagar, Ranadivenagar and other areas. They have been looking for help from the government. The officials are working round the clock to reach out to the flood victims.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is sitting in the NTR district collectorate and monitoring the relief work. He also visited Payakapuram area in a boat along with the security personnel and NDRF personnel. He met some victims and had a chat with them on the relief operations.

Helicopters are dropping food and water packets but most of it is going waste as there is no transport facility for the people to collect the food packets. The fresh food packets are dumped on the main roads in the flood waters.

The officials said that it would take another two days for them to restore power supply in Singhnagar and Payakapuram areas. The electricity department had set up mobile towers in some areas and is using power generators in some areas to give lights to the flood victims in the night.

Meanwhile, the flood threat to Prakasam Barrage is receding. The flood water have come down to 8.19 lakh cusecs from 11.43 lakh cusecs on Tuesday. The officials have lifted all 70 gates of Prakasam Barrage to let the water go into the sea. They are releasing 500 cusecs of water into the irrigation canals.
