The fire services staff are cleaning the flooded houses in Vijayawada. As the water receded on Saturday, the fire services staff started the work. They are visiting every house and cleaning the mud and other things that have entered the house along with flood water. They have cleared over 17,000 houses on Saturday.
The civil supplies department had also started distributing essential kits. They are giving 25 kilos of rice, two kilos of oil, red gram, onions and one kilo of salt to every house. They have packed these essentials and distributing them at the door step.
There is still 4 feet of water in some areas of the city. As the rain continues on Saturday and Sunday, more water is expected to flow. The officials have closed the seven breaches to the Budameru rivulet. There would be no threat of flood from the rivulet anymore.
The officials have supplied food to over 60,000 people in the inundated areas. Over 64,000 kilos of vegetables were also distributed to the victims. The vegetables are being supplied at the subsidized prices to the victims.
The state government had prepared a preliminary report of flood damage. The initial estimates put the loss at Rs 6,880 crore. The reports were sent to the Central government. The state government had requested the centre to give the money and help the state.
The electricity department had started restoring the power supply. The mobile companies have also started the work to restore the towers.
