Several private vehicles were damaged in the floods to Budameru in Vijayawada. The vehicles were completely and partially marooned in the flood waters. They are not ready for use now as flood water entered every part of the vehicle.
Here are some tips for the vehicle owners to claim insurance from the companies. If they have comprehensive insurance package, they would get insurance coverage. This comprehensive package is given by the insurance companies at the time of purchase of the vehicle.
If the comprehensive policy also has add on schemes like nil depreciation or zero depreciation engine protection, on road assistance hydrostic lock cover, consumable cover, are useful in situations like floods. Those who have these schemes would get full coverage for the damages.
The vehicle owner should submit the photographs of the vehicle in the water to the insurance company in three weeks after the disaster. Only then the companies would accept the claim.
If the vehicle has third party insurance, it is not of much use for the owners to claim. However, if there is personal insurance for life, and if the person dies in flood waters, then there is possibility of getting insurance coverage. Even then, the owner or others should give the details of the vehicle including the death of the insured person in the vehicle.
If the vehicle is washed away in the flood waters, then the owner should give a complaint in the police station and get FIR. The copy of the FIR should be submitted to the insurance company for the claim.
There should be videos and photos showing the damage to the vehicle and these videos and photos should be supplied to the insurance company. Doors of the vehicles should be open and the inside photos should also be taken.
The vehicle should be taken to the nearest garage. Engine should not be started. Battery of the vehicle should be disconnected.
