Former minister and YSR Congress leader Kurasala Kannababu on Sunday alleged that the floods that inundated parts of Vijayawada were due to the negligence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. He said that Naidu is responsible for the floods, in which over 45 persons died.
The former minister said that the irrigation officials and the weather officials have alerted the state government about floods on August 28. The government did not take steps to save people from foods, he said. He further alleged that the government did not hold any review on the floods and alerted the people.
The former minister further said that the officials from the irrigation department have also alerted the state government about floods to Krishna river and Budameru rivulet. They have also told the government about lifting the gates of Budameru, he said. However, the government did not respond to this information, he said.
Kannababu alleged that Chandrababu Naidu was focusing more on publicity than relief works. He further said that the chief minister was giving poses to the photos and videos in the media rather than working for the relief to the people. The flood victims have been in the water for the past seven days, he said.
The chief minister was hiding in the NTR district collectorate for the past seven days as his house was also inundated, he said. He further said that Chandrababu Naidu had ran away from his house which was marooned in the floods to the river.
He wondered why Chandrababu Naidu did not strengthen the Budameru bunds between 2014 and 2019. Who stopped him from strengthening the Budameru bunds, he asked. He further said that Chandrababu Naidu was the chief minister for 15 years and wondered where had his experience gone.
