Two more government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh secured clearance from the National Medical Council. The NMC had given clearance to the two medical colleges giving 50 MBBS seats in each college.
The state government had proposed to give these colleges to the private institutions. The previous YSR Congress government had proposed to start these two medical colleges along with the medical colleges at Adoni, Markapur, and Madanapalle with 150 medical seats.
As the present TDP-led NDA government is in favour of giving the medical colleges to the private it did not cooperate with the NMC during the recent inspection. It also did not improve the facilities in these medical colleges. The government gave permission to the officials in the last minute to get ready for the NMC inspection.
The NMC had written to the state government seeking undertaking. The state government also did not give any undertaking to the NMC to start the medical college. However, the NMC had sanctioned 50 seats in each of these two medical colleges for 2024-25 academic year.
It is now to be seen what would the state government do. Will it start the courses in these two medical colleges this year or leave it.
