Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Dr P Narayana, on Tuesday said that the government officials are working to make assessment of the damage caused to various sectors in the floods. The Minister inspected the relief works in Kandrika, Nunna and other areas on the day.
The Minister said that several teams are working to assess the damage caused to the people, crops, houses and vehicles. Damage caused to shops and other establishments would also be assessed, the minister said. He said that the officials would submit the report to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The chief minister would take a decision on how to compensate the loss, the minister said. He further said that the chief minister was also thinking of compensating the people for their losses. The chief minister had already instructed the insurance companies to take cases of insurance claims for the vehicles that were struck in the flood waters, the minister said.
He said that the flood water is still in some parts of the city. The government officials are draining out the flood water from the colonies and roads using motors, he said. He expressed confidence that all roads and colonies would be free of flood water by evening on Tuesday or latest by morning of Wednesday.
The minister further said that the officials have also distributed essential kits to the victims. So far 1.85 lakh families were given these kits, the minister said. He further added that some NGOs and even individuals have come to the aid of the flood victims. They have distributed food, water, milk to the flood victims, the minister said.
The Minister further said that sanitation staff have already started cleaning the roads, streets and houses in the flood-hit areas. He said that they have asked people not to use flood water for their safety for another two days. The government would supply water for them, he said.
Dr Narayana said that the state government would start operation Budameru shortly and clear all encroachments. The officials have already started identifying the encroachments on both side bunds of Budameru rivulet, the Minister said.
