The previous YSR Congress government did not care for the Budameru bunds leading to their breach in the recent floods, say Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Speaking to media at the Budameru rivulet on Tuesday, Chandrababu Naidu blamed the previous government for neglecting the water sources.
Chandrababu Naidu inspected the bunds at their breaches on the day. He visited the flood-hit areas also and interacted with the officials. He said that Krishna river had received 11.43 cusecs of flood water. In addition to this, the rivulet also received heavy floods. All this had caused breach to the Budameru rivulet and inundated the city, he said.
He said that Minister for Water Resources, Nimmala Rama Naidu, was at the breaches when the officials were working to fill them. The Minister stayed there for seven days, the chief minister said. He said he had also watched the filling of the breaches work through drones.
The officials have used drones and helicopters to give food and water to the flood victims, he said. However, the officials could not reach some of the victims in the remote areas, he said. He regretted that the heavy water did not allow the officials to go to every victim. He said that the officials would now visit every house and meet every family.
The chief minister said that Budameru was encroached in the last five years. The government did not take any measures to stop the encroachments, he said. The previous government watched people to encroach upon the rivulet, the chief minister said.
He said that a large number of people have come to help the victims. But the YSR Congress leaders were spreading lies and criticizing the government, he said. The YSR Congress is working against the people as they defeated the party, he said. He alleged that the YSR Congress leaders were looking at troubling the people.
The chief minister alleged that the YSR Congress leaders have left three boats in the flood water with intention to damage the Prakasam Barrage gates. The heavy boats have hit the counter weight of the gates and not the columns, he said. The damage would have been more had the boats hit the columns, the chief minister said. He said that the police are investigating into the role of the YSR Congress leaders in the boats issue. The government would take stern action against those who were responsible for it, the chief minister said.
