Compensation to flood victims by Sept 17, says Naidu

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said that the state government would pay compensation to the flood victims by September 17. Her said that the government officials would visit every family of the flood victims and pay the compensation.

Chandrababu Naidu inspected the Yeleru floods in Kakinada district on the day. He also inspected the Budameru and Thammileru rivulets which merge with the Kolleru lake. He also took the aerial view of the Kolleru lake. He also interacted with the local farmers and assured them of government support.

Chandrababu Naidu also addressed a meeting of the flood victims at Rajupalem village of Kirlampudi mandal in Kakinada district. He inspected the flooded areas of Yeluru rivulet and interacted with the people there.

He blamed the previous YSR Congress government for neglecting the water bodies and projects. He said that the YSR Congress government did not work on maintenance of the irrigation projects for the last five years. The projects were left to their fate and the government did nothing to monitor their maintenance, the chief minister said.

He said that Yeleru reservoir received 47,000 cusecs in one day and several areas were inundated. The initiative taken by the district collector saved some people from floods, the chief minister said. The crops in 65,000 acres were destroyed in the district due to floods, he said.

The chief minister said that the government would give Rs 25,000 compensation to the farmers for the crop loss in every hector. The government would also construct new houses for the victims if their houses were destroyed in the floods, the chief minister said.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the state government would pay Rs 10,000 for every vehicle that was damaged in the floods. The officials would visit the flood-hit areas and complete enumeration, the chief minister said. He said that the government would pay the compensation latest by September 17.
