The Andhra Pradesh state government had decided to revamp the excise department. The Excise Department special chief secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena issued orders reorganizing the entire department.
The state government had withdrawn the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) which was created by the previous YSR Congress government. The SEB was responsible for conducting raids on the sale of illicit liquor in the state. The SEB used to conduct raids and seize the illicit liquor transported and sold in the state. Now, the SEB would disappear from the state according to the new orders.
The Jagan Mohan Reddy government had divided the excise department into two – excise and SEB. While the SEB handled the illicit liquor, the excise department handled the sale and purchase of liquor in the state. The government had its own liquor outlets across the state.
Enforcement Department would be created in the place of SEB. The enforcement department would be headed by either SP level officer or DIG level officer. The enforcement department would do whatever the SEB was doing in the previous YSR Congress government.
The department would have four wings – executive, enforcement, Distilleries and Beverages. The Excise Commissioner would head all these four departments. The executive wing would have a commissioner, while the enforcement wing would be headed by a director. A joint commissioner would head the distilleries, while Managing Director would head the beverages corporation.
A deputy commissioner would monitor the departmental activities in every undivided district. There would be two new zones – Anakapalli and Rajamahendravaram. These zones would have assistant commissioners.
Every new district would have excise superintendent assisted by two assistant excise superintendents for all the 26 districts.
The present 208 SEB offices would now be the excise stations. Each station would be headed by an inspector level officer.
