The Andhra Pradesh police have questioned the YSR Congress leaders in connection with attack on the TDP office in October 2021. A large number of YSR Congress activists barged into the TDP office and destroyed furniture there. They have also attacked the TDP workers in the party office.
The TDP filed a case with the Mangalagiri police station immediately. However, they did not take any action in the case. But when the TDP won the 2024 general elections and formed the new government, the police have started working on it.
The Mangalagiri police have registered an FIR in the case and collected CCTV footage from the TDP office. They have also collected evidences from some TDP workers in the office. They have identified over 74 persons in the case and booked cases against them.
The police have also included the names of YSR Congress MLCs Lella Appi Reddy and Talasila Raghuram, senior leader Devineni Avinash in the case. The police found that these three leaders were behind the attack. All those who participated in the attack belonged to these three leaders, the police said.
Accordingly, cases were filed against them. However, they first went to the AP high court seeking anticipatory bail. As the court rejected the bail, they approached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court gave a relief to them asking police not to arrest them. However, the court directed them to cooperate with the police in the investigation of the case. The court also directed them to hand over their passports to the police till the case is settled.
Following this, the YSR Congress leaders Appi Reddy, Raghuram and Avinash went to the Mangalagiri police station on Saturday. Mangalagiri DSP Murali Krishna, additional SP Kolli Srinivasa Rao and Inspector Srinivasa Rao questioned Appi Reddy, Avinash and Raghuram on the day.
Sources say that these leaders did not speak anything except saying that they have no role in the attack and they don’t remember anything.
