The Andhra Pradesh state government on Monday withdrew the reverse tendering system in the contracts. The reverse tendering system was introduced by the previous YSR Congress government between 2019 and 2024.
All contracts were reviewed by the previous YSR Congress government and favoured reverse tendering. Even the Polavaram project was also given in reverse tendering by the YSR Congress government. The YSR Congress government claimed to have saved over Rs 5,000 crore in various projects through reverse tendering.
However, the TDP had opposed the reverse tendering while in opposition. Chandrababu Naidu took then chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to target for introducing the reverse tendering. After coming to power in the state in 2024, the BJP government decided to withdraw the reverse tendering.
A meeting of the Board of Chief Engineers and Engineer-in-Chief held on August 8, 2024 had recommended to the state government to withdraw the reverse tendering. The meeting also recommended to the state government to restore the previous system of tendering.
