Three canals planned in Amaravati, says Narayana

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Dr P Narayana, said that the state government is planning three canals in the capital city Amaravati. Speaking to media persons in Vijayawada on Monday, Dr Narayana said that the government had decided to take up Kondaveeti Vagu, Pala Vagu and Gravity Canal in Amaravati.

These three canals would be completed before the next rainy season, the Minister said. He further added that he had discussed these issues with the officials and gave them time schedule for the officials. The government would complete pumping stations at Undavalli, Buckingham Canal and Vaikuntapuram in Amaravati, the minister said.

The pumping stations would come up with a capacity of 12,350 cusecs at Undavalli, 4,000 cusecs at Buckingham Canal, and 5,650 cusecs at Vaikuntapuram, the Minister said. If all these projects are completed, Amaravati would have no flood threat in the future, the minister said.

The state government had also planned six reservoirs in Amaravati, the Minister said. A reservoir at Neerukonda with a storage capacity of 0.4 tmcft, at Krishnayapalem with 0.1 tmcft, Sakhamuru with a capacity of 0.01 tmcft and at Lam with a storage capacity of 0.3 tmcft water, the Minister said.

Meanwhile, the minister further said that the government would call for tenders for the roads in Amaravati in December this year. He said that the government would lay 365 kilometers of roads in Amaravati.

The Minister said that the IITs have given reports stating that the constructions in Amaravati are in fit condition. The IIT Hyderabad and IIT Chennai have given their reports to the state government, the minister said. He said that the government would start construction of the permanent secretariat and Assembly buildings as per planned.

The government would complete jungle clearance in Amaravati shortly and start the construction activity, the minister said. He further added that the first phase of Amaravati works would be completed in the next two years.
