The Andhra Pradesh state government had decided to give housing plots to the urban middle classes shortly. Over 3.79 lakh urban middle class people have applied for the plots during the previous YSR Congress government. The YSR Congress government had procured land in 36 towns and cities in the state and named as Jagananna Smat Townships.

Though the Jagan Mohan Reddy government had planned to acquire lands and have Smart Townships in all 175 Assembly constituencies, it could have them only in 36 towns and cities in the state. The previous government could not acquire lands in other parts of the state.

The present government had named these smart townships as NTR Smart Townships and had decided to hand over the plots to the applicants. Several people have paid full amount, while some are yet to pay. The government wants to hand over the plots to those who paid the full amount so far. The government also plans to get the balance amount to be paid by the other applicants.

The state government also plans to develop roads, drains and provide electricity and drinking water facilities in these townships on priority basis. This would make the middle class families to start construction of houses and move there. The construction activity would bring tax revenue to the state government.

The officials are now busy preparing the list of those who paid full amount and those who did not. The payment details are being collected now from across the 36 townships in the state. The officials want to collect the balance amount from the other middle-class applicants. The government would give notices to those who are yet to pay the full amount and collect it at the earliest.

The previous government had received 1,28,069 applications for 240 square yards plots, 1,31,233 applications for 200 square yards plots and 1,19,845 applications for 150 square yards plots. In all 3,79,147 applications were received so far during the previous government. The present government wants to start receiving new applications and begin the work.
