The Vijayawada city was inundated 30 days ago, but there was no flood relief from the Central government, said AICC member Sunkara Padmasree. In a statement here on Saturday, Padmasree came down heavily on the Central government for not helping the state even after 30 days of the devastation.
Padmasree said that some donors have come forward and donated to the state government. The state government was thus able to give some support to the flood victims, she said. She further said that the state government had sent a report to the Central government on the flood damage. However, till date, there is no reply from the Central government, she regretted.
The AICC member said that the BJP-led national government at the Center had been playing a destructive role for Andhra Pradesh. In the last five years, the BJP did not give any money to the state though then chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was in their hands. The Central government failed to lend a helping hand to the state in the last five years, she said.
She further blamed the BJP government for not granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh as was promised by the government on the floor of the Parliament. She said that the special category status is the only mantra for the development of the state.
She also blamed the BJP-led government for not giving railway zone at Visakhapatnam, Ramayapatnam port and Kadapa steel plant even after 10 years of bifurcation. She said that the government was dragging the issue years together leaving the state to its fate.
She also blamed the BJP government for proposing the privatize the Visakhapatnam steel plant. She said that the steel plant has been the memory of 32 persons who sacrificed their lives for it. She said that the Congress would not allow the BJP government to privatise the steel plant. The Congress would fight to protect the steel plant and the pride of the Telugu people, she said.
Referring to the controversy on Tirupati Laddu, Padmasree wanted the Supreme Court to investigate into the issue by a retired judge. She wanted the apex court to intervene and see that the facts are revealed to the people.
