CPI-M state secretariat member Ch Baburao on Monday alleged that the Andhra Pradesh state government was planning to put an additional burden of Rs 7,200 crore on the people in the name of electricity adjustment charges.
The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission had issued notification proposing slabs to be collected from the users, he said. These charges would be collected for 2022-23 on the electricity consumed by the people, he said.
The Central Power Distribution Company had proposed Rs 3.27, Rs 1.50, Rs 1.47 and Rs 0.45 from the people. Similarly, the Southern Power Distribution Company had proposed Rs 1.92, Rs 1.43, Rs 0.82 and Rs 0.38, while the Eastern Power Distribution Company had proposed Rs 2.07, Rs 1.39, Rs 1.16 and Rs 0.38 from the power consumers.
Baburao said that the TDP and its alliance partners have promised not to increase the power tariff. They have promised to keep the power charges at the low, he said. However, after coming to power, the TDP had gone back on the promise, he said.
The CPI-M leader alleged that people are already burdened with the electricity charges. The charges were high in Andhra Pradesh, when compared to other states, he said. The power distribution companies were incurring loses due to the failure of the officials, he said.
Baburao demanded that the state government withdraw the proposal to collect these extra charges. He said that the CPI-M would lead an agitation across the state if these charges were collected from the people.
CPI-M NTR district unit secretary D V Krishna, senior leader Donepudi Kasinath, senior leaders K Sridevi, P V Anjaneyulu, N Ch Srinivas, K Kalyan and B Satya Babu were present at the press conference.
