South Central Railway (SCR) general manager, Arun Kumar Jain, said that the Central government had cleared the proposal for new railway line to Amaravati. The line starts at Errubalem in Khammam district and joins the Vijayawada-Guntur line at Nambur. The line would pass through Amaravati, he said.
The general manager met with the MPs from Andhra Pradesh on the day at the Electric Tract Training Centre in Vijayawada. He h eld discussions with the MPs about the railway projects being implemented in Andhra Pradesh.
The general manager said that the South Central Railway is currently implementing Rs 21,000 crore worth projects in both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. He said that in Andhra Pradesh 73 railway stations are being upgraded and developed. The Vijayawada railway station is also being developed under the public private partnership, he said.
Arun Kumar Jain said that in Andhra Pradesh 257 road under bridges were removed for the free flow of traffic in the state. The Central government and the railway board would work together in the coming years to develop railways in the state, he said.
In the last one year, 35 trains were introduced in Andhra Pradesh of which six were Vande Bharat trains. They were all running safe in the state, he said.
The general manager said that the MPs from the state have asked for new railway line from Machilipatnam to Bapatla and Repalle. The proposal would be sent to the railway board, he said.
The government would also develop some satellite railway stations attached to Vijayawada city, he said. The Gunadala and Rayanapadu stations would be developed as the satellite stations, the general manager said.
He further said that the MPs have raised the issue of drainage system in Vijayawada, which passes under the railway tracks. The Central government would take up this project and ensure that the drainage system is well maintained, he said.
