Former chief minister and YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday equated Haryana elections with the elections held in Andhra Pradesh. He sought the country to give up EVMs and go back to the paper ballot.
Haryana polls have seen the BJP coming to power while all exit polls have projected a big win for the Congress. People are suspecting the EVMs role in the elections. There are doubts over the EVMs as there is difference between the victory and defeat.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that there are several cases pending in the courts in Andhra Pradesh after the general election. People were losing faith in democracy with the results in the EVMs.
“Yet another election result confounds popular perception. Haryana election result is no different from Andhra Pradesh, on which cases are pending in courts. In a democracy like ours, Democracy should not only be prevalent but also be seen to be thriving. Only way to ensure both, is going back to Paper Ballot. When a large majority of developed countries including USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany, France, Japan, Norway and Denmark are using paper ballot, it is time we make changes with rest of the world and move towards Paper Ballot, which in turn would enhance the confidence of the electorate. The lawmakers should come forward to instill confidence,” Jagan Mohan Reddy tweeted in his social media account.
There are allegations of EVMs being tampered in the elections. TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and his supporters have displayed how EVMs can be tampered with. Chandrababu Naidu said that EVMs could be hacked as they have just an electronic chip. A chip monitored by a machine can also be monitored by another machine, Chandrababu Naidu said in the past.
