Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council Botsa Satyanarayana has held the TDP coalition government responsible for the diarrhea-related deaths in Gurlu of Vizianagaram district and demanded immediate compensation for the families of the deceased and called for prompt action to prevent further outbreaks.
Speaking to the media after visiting the affected villages, Botsa expressed anger over the government’s negligence for these tragic deaths and stated that the deaths were caused by contaminated drinking water and poor sanitation.
According to official figures, 11 people have died so far, though locals claim the death toll is higher by five more cases, he said and added that the government has failed to monitor public health and sanitation in the affected villages, resulting in these preventable deaths.
Botsa insisted that these deaths are not natural but are due to the government’s negligence. He called for immediate ex-gratia compensation to the families of the deceased and urged the authorities to take corrective actions. Additionally, he criticized the government for shifting blame to the previous YSRCPC government instead of focusing on taking preventive measures. He demanded that officials conduct house-to-house surveys, provide essential medicines, and ensure better healthcare facilities in the affected areas.
