The ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is scheduled to start its membership drive from October 26. Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu would launch the drive on Saturday at the party central office in Mangalagiri.

The members would have to pay Rs 100 to get the membership. This would give Rs 5 lakh insurance cover besides providing education and employment for the youth in the family. The entire family members would also get the health and education support from the party.

Chandrababu Naidu held discussions with the party senior leaders at his Undavalli residence on Friday to finalise the nominated posts. This would be the second time that the party would be filling the nominated posts after it came to power on June 12.

Chandrababu Naidu wants to give the nominated posts to those who have worked for the party in the last five years. Those who have been under pressure from the YSR Congress when the TDP was in opposition, would get the priority in the nominated posts.

Naidu gave 21 nominated posts in the first instalment and this time it would be double, sources say. He plans to fill at least 50 nominated posts this time. Naidu is also holding consultations with the leaders of the Jana Sena and BJP, the partners of the NDA government in the state.

He had asked the Jana Sena and BJP leaders to give the names of their leaders to be accommodated in the nominated posts. The Jana Sena had already given its list of the candidates, while the BJP is expected to give in a day or two.
