AIIMS Mangalagiri launches drone service

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri launched drone service in the hospital on Tuesday. The drone collected the blood samples of a pregnant woman at Nutakki village and transported the same to the AIIMS Mangalagiri.

The drone took just 9 minutes to bring the blood to the hospital from Nutakki village, which is 15 kilometers away. The service was launched in association with Center for Rural Health (CRHA), Nutakki. CRHA chief executive officer Prof. Dr Madhabananda Kar was present on the occasion.

The drone service would be in operation twice a week now, said the AIIMS spokesman Dr Vamsi Krishna Reddy. He said that the drone service would be expanded to other villages in and around Mangalagiri in the years to come.

The programme was launched as part of the celebrations of Dharvantari Jayanti and ninth Ayurveda Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the expansion of Ayushman Bharat Pradhana Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme on the occasion. He also launched multiple health care projects under the Ministry of Ayush at a cost of Rs 12,850 crore.
