The YSR Congress women activists on Tuesday met National Human Rights Commission and lodged a complaint against the deteriorating law and order and safety of women in the state. They expressed concern over the safety of women as the government is not taking steps to protect the women and girl children.
YSR Congress women wing president and MLC Varudu Kalyani, MP, Dr Tanuja Rani, former MPs Chintha Anuradha and Madhavi met NHRC acting chairperson Vijayabharati in New Delhi on the day. They gave her a representation explaining how atrocities are taking place in the state against women and girl children.
The YSR Congress leaders alleged that over 77 incidents happened in the state against women and girl children, where either they were killed, or raped or committed suicide because of harassment. They said that the government is not reacting to these incidents and providing security for women in the state.
The NDA government had also made the Disha mobile application inactive. The women have no source of seeking security in the hour of crisis, they said. During the YSR Congress government in the last five years, the women have used the Disha App and saved themselves from crime against them.
The present government had closed all the Disha police stations and made the Disha App defunct, the YSR Congress leaders alleged. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha were busy in the sand and liquor sales in the state leaving the safety of women, they alleged.
The YSR Congress leaders requested the NHRC acting chairperson to visit Andhra Pradesh and look into the atrocities took place in the last four months of the NDA government rule. They also requested the NHRC chairperson to send teams to the state to study the safety of women in the state.
