Former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had blamed the TDP-led NDA government in the state for asking the farmers to pay the insurance premium. He said that the NDA government headed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is asking the farmers to pay the insurance premium.
He said that the YSR Congress government had paid Rs 3,022.26 crore premium in the last five years. The YSR Congress government had extended crop insurance to over 5.52 crore acers of land in the state, Jagan Mohan Reddy said.
The YSR Congress government also paid Rs 7,802.08 crore insurance cover to 54.55 lakh farmers in the last five years, Jagan Mohan Reddy said. The government also paid Rs 34,288.17 crore to the farmers through Rythu Bharosa, he said.
He said that the NDA government did not pay the insurance premium this year causing a loss of Rs 1,385 crore to the agriculture sector. He also said that the government had completely neglected the Rythu Bharosa Kendras in the state this year. Thus, the farmers were left to their fate, he said.
Stating that the TDP government during 2014 and 2019 had paid Rs 3,411.2 crore to 30.85 lakh farmers, the YSR Congress government had paid Rs 7802.08 crore to 54.55 lakh farmers between 2019 and 2024, he said.
This year, the government did not pay the premium of Rs 930 crore to the insurance companies causing loss to the farmers, Jagan Mohan Reddy said. The premium was to be paid in June this year, he said and wondered why the government did not pay the premium.
