Andhra Pradesh minister for municipal administration and urban development, Dr P Narayana, said that Amaravati would be one of the five top cities in the world. He said that the state government is developing Amaravati on international standards. The works would be completed in the next three years, he said.

Speaking to media in Amaravati on Monday, Dr Narayana said that the tenders were issued in 2017 for the construction of houses for judges, ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and other all India service officers. However, the successive government did not continue the works, he said. The contract expired later, he said.

An expert committee was formed after the NDA government was formed in the state in June this year. The committee had given its report to the state government in October this year, he said. The government would award new tenders in December this year, the Minister said. He expressed confidence that the contractors would start the work in January, 2025.

The Minister said that the World Bank had agreed to give a loan of Rs 15,000 crore for capital Amaravati. The World Bank would release the funds according to our requirements, he said. The works would be started in a phased manner and the World Bank would release the funds accordingly, the Minister said.

The Minister said that the works would start for Rs 31,000 crore. Another Rs 41,000 crore works would also be allotted shortly, the Minister said. He expressed confidence that every work in Amaravati would be carried out successfully. He said that the present NDA government would complete the Amaravati works in the next five years. Amaravati would be the permanent capital of the state, he said.

The Minister further blamed the previous YSR Congress government for wasting five years without building the capital city. He said that the YSR Congress government played a political game by bringing in the three capitals issue. The three capitals were not possible, he said. He reiterated that Amaravati would be the only capital for the state.
