Complete Polavaram by June 2027, Naidu tells officials

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu told the officials to complete the Polavaram project by June 2027. He wanted the officials to follow the schedule given by the Central government to complete the project.

Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting with the officials of the water resources department on Polavaram Project at Velagapudi secretariat. Minister for Water Resources, Nimmala Ramananidu and other senior officials were present at the meeting.

The chief minister told them to utilize the funds given by the Centre in the construction of the project. If the government cannot complete the full level of the project, he asked them to complete at least 60 to 70 per cent of the height as per the schedule.

He said that the experts from foreign countries and the senior officials from the Central Water Commission, Water Resources Department would be visiting the project soon. He wanted the officials to keep the project plan ready. He also told the officials to plan the new diaphragm wall parallel to the main dam of the project.

Chandrababu Naidu said that he would visit the Polavaram Project site on November 22 or 23 and hold a review meeting at the project site. He wanted the officials to prepare the plans so that he could announce it there during his visit. He said that he would explain the project situation to the people and work to complete it by June 2027.

The chief minister wanted to know if the Right Main Canal width could be increased or a new canal is required. He asked the officials to study the possibility of expanding the Right Main Canal. He also told them to complete the Left Main Canal by 2025 June and give water to North Andhra region. He wanted the officials to fill all irrigation tanks and other water bodies in North Andhra region by June 2025.

The officials told the chief minister that they have called for tenders worth Rs 960 and would complete the works by July 2025. On rehabilitation, the officials told the chief minister that they were working on completing the rehabilitation by April 2026. The government would require Rs 7,213 crore for the first phase of rehabilitation.

The chief minister told the officials to plan iconic bridge parallel to the spill way. He wanted the officials to ask the Central government for funds to the iconic bridge. If the Centre refuses to fund the bridge, he wanted the officials to use the funds from the state government.

The officials informed the chief minister that they have kept everything ready for construction of diaphragm wall. The second diaphragm wall construction should start at the earliest and asked the officials to hold talks with the Central government officials.
