YSR Congress has announced its decision to boycott the Graduate MLC elections, citing the coalition government’s lack of democratic integrity and fairness.
Speaking to the media at the party central here on Thursday, the YSRCP leaders including former ministers Perni Nani and Ambati Rambabu, stated that they would abstain from voting, expressing disapproval of the current administration’s approach to governance. They said that the government has failed to maintain law and order, with over 100 crimes against women reported in recent months without any substantial response.
Former minister Perni Nani criticized the government’s disregard for public safety, accusing it of diversionary tactics instead of fulfilling electoral promises. He also stated that YSRCP’s social media activists were facing baseless cases and arbitrary arrests for questioning the government.
They further said that the coalition’s influence over the police has resulted in law enforcement acting as a private force for TDP leaders, allowing their misconduct to go unchecked. They referenced cases where YSRCP workers were targeted unfairly, leading to harassment and arrests.
In light of these concerns, Perni Nani announced that the YSRCP would boycott the upcoming Graduate MLC elections in Guntur, Krishna, and the combined Godavari districts. He stressed that, given the suppression of candidates’ freedom to campaign freely, democratic values are at risk, leaving YSRCP with no option but to withdraw from the elections.
