Former chief minister and YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said that he would sue the two Telugu dailies in the State and file a defamation case against them. He alleged that the two Telugu dailies, which have been working for the Telugu Desam Party were spreading false news about him.
Speaking to media at Tadepalli, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that he would file defamation case against Eenadu and Andhra Jyothi for spreading false information about him in the power purchase agreements during his government from 2019 to 2024.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) had sent a letter to his government in 2020 offering waiver of interstate transmission charges and had offered to provide solar power at Rs 2.49 per unit. This would save over Rs 1.50 lakh crore in a period of over 25 years. He said that his government had signed the MoU with the SECI. There was no involvement of any private party in these agreements, he said.
He alleged that TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had spent Rs 5.50 per unit, while he spent only Rs 2.49 per unit. He said that his government had saved so much on the power purchase agreements.
Referring to the Eenadu and Andhra Jyothi bringing his name with the cases of industrialist and businessman, Adani, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that it was a fabricated news. While admitting that he would have met Adani in his capacity as the chief minister of the state, he asserted that any chief minister would meet any industrialist or businessman. He said that the governments would hold industrial meets only to promote investments.
He said that there was nothing wrong in him meeting Adani. But he took strong objection to the two Telugu papers referring his name with Adani in the allegations of corruption. He wondered how is he related to Adani’s crime in the US. It was a clear fabrication by the media to throw mud against him and tarnish his image.
When the Discoms of Andhra Pradesh have signed agreement with SECI, where is the place for Adani to enter. He also said that his government had signed the power purchase agreement with SECI at Rs 2.49 against Rs 5.50 by the Chandrababu Naidu government.
The PPA with the SECI was the lowest in the country between 2019 and 2024, Jagan Mohan Reddy said. He questioned the integrity of these two Telugu papers and maintained that he would sue them for Rs 100 crore.
