Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that the government would work hard to complete the Polavaram project by December 2027. Chandrababu Naidu visited the Polavaram project site on Monday and held a review meeting with the irrigation department officials and the representatives of the contractor.

He inspected the project sites and enquired about the progress of works. He toured the entire project site and also inspected the area where the new diaphragm wall would come. He interacted with the officials and told them to start the construction of new diaphragm wall.

Later speaking to media persons, Chandrababu Naidu said that the government would start storing the water in the project from October 2026. He said that the officials are working to store the water at the earliest even as the other works are in various stages.

The chief minister said that the government would also complete the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R and R) works once the storage of water in the project is started. He told the officials to focus on completing the R and R works at the earliest.

The chief minister further said that the construction of new diaphragm wall would be completed by December 2025. The Central government had given permission for construction of new diaphragm wall, he said. The existing diaphragm wall was damaged due to 2020 floods and it can not be used now. The damage was due to the negligence by the previous YSR Congress government, he said.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the two canals of the project would be ready. The right main canal was already completed and is being used to send Godavari water to Krishna river, he said. The left main canal works would be completed by 2025, he said.

He further said that the approach channel would be ready by 2026 June, while the spill channel would be ready by July 2027 and the pilot channel by May 2027. The officials were told to meet the deadlines set for every channel, he said. He took the inputs from the officials before setting the deadline, he said.

The left canal head regulator works would be completed by February 2027, exit channel works by April 2027 and Tunnel works by February 2027, he said adding that the works on twin tunnel would be completed by the end of 2026.
