Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal had written to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday requesting him to consider his support to the BJP in the light of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s uncharitable comments against Dr B R Ambedkar.
Shah had said in parliament that chanting of Ambedkar’s name had become fashion these days. He made this comment in the Parliament during discussion on Constitution. The comment was targeted against the Congress leaders.
Kejriwal said that Shah’s comment was not only disrespectful but also reveals the BJP’s perspective towards Babasaheb and our constitution. He said that Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was honored with Doctor of Law degree by Columbia University.
He said that Dr Ambedkar had authored the Indian Constitution and championed equal rights for the most marginalized sections of society. He wondered how did the BJP have the audacity to make such a comment about him.
Kejriwal said that Shah’s comments have hurt the sentiments of millions of people across the country. Instead of apologizing for his statement Amit Shah justified it, he said. He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also supported Shah’s statement adding insult to the injury.
He said that people across the country were beginning to feel that those who revere Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar can no longer support the BJP and its politics. He said that Babasaheb is not just a leader but the soul of the nation.
Kejriwal wanted Chandrababu Naidu to deeply reflect on this issue and take a call on supporting the BJP leadership in the national politics.
