Former minister and senior YSR Congress leader Velampalli Srinivas on Tuesday alleged that the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh had looted the exchequer in the name of floods. He alleged that the government had looted Rs 500 crore in the name of flood relief.

The former minister said that the government had claimed to have spent Rs 3.6 crore for the food and Rs 1.4 crore for the accommodation to the flood victims. He wondered where did this amount go? He said that the officials have given some tamarind rice packets to the flood victims on the second day. The tamarind and lemon rice packets were airdropped for four days, he said.

He wondered whether the tamarind and lemon rice would cost Rs 3.6 crore. He asked chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to explain how the Rs 3.6 crore were spent on the food to the flood victims. He also wanted to know where the relief camps were opened for the flood victims.

The former minister also said that the government had claimed to have spent Rs 26 crore for drinking water and Rs 23 crore for candles and match boxes for the flood victims. He wondered how many drinking water bottles were given to the flood victims. He said that the people have suffered heavily due to non-availability of drinking water.

He further said that people have lived in the darkness as there was no power supply. But the state government had claimed to have spent Rs 23 crore on candles and matchboxes given to the flood victims, he said. He wanted the government to show any proof from the government distributing candles and matchboxes to the flood victims.

He also said that the government is now claiming to have spent Rs 55 crore for sanitation. He said that a couple of fire vehicles have come and cleaned some houses. The flood victims themselves have cleaned their houses and the sanitation staff have cleaned the roads, the former minister said.

Srinivas said that some families have lost Rs 5 lakh worth of assets in the floods. The state government had not given anything to them even after a month of the devastation, the former minister said. He said that the YSR Congress would stand by the flood victims. He further said that the YSR Congress would fight with the government to get some help for the flood victims.
