Former chief minister and YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the present NDA government in Andhra Pradesh is neglecting the health of the people. He said that the government is more interested in the scams rather than the health of the people.
He took strong exception to the government giving treatment to the diarrhea patients in Vizianagaram on the school benches. He wondered why the government did not take them to the hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram town.
He said that 11 persons were killed due to diarrhea in the district so far. However, the government is not moved, he said. Those in the government are busy making money from sand and liquor, he alleged. He blamed the government for not focusing on the welfare of the people, particularly the health of the people.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the present government had totally neglected the 104 and 108 services in the last four months. The staff of these vehicles were not given salaries for the last four months, he said. The staff were left to their fate and there was no one to listen to them, he alleged.
He further said that this government had also totally neglected the Arogyasri programme. The government did not pay the money to the private hospitals for treatment to the patients under the scheme since March this year. He said that the government has to pay at least Rs 1800 crore to the private hospitals under the scheme.
While 11 persons died so far, hundreds of people fell victim to diarrhea in the district, Jagan Mohan Reddy said. He said that the health minister did not visit the area till now. Even the officials of the health department from Amaravati did not visit the victims so far, he said.
Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the rank and file of the YSR Congress to support the victims. He wanted them to give food and water to the victims who are being treated in the government school. He promised to help the victims from the YSR Congress Party.
