The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Wednesday asked the state government to order judicial enquiry into land grabbing cases in the state. CPI-M state secretary V Srinivasa Rao in a statement asked the state government to order judicial probe into every land grabbing allegation in the state.

Srinivasa Rao said that the TDP government had constituted a special investigation team (SIT) in 2017 on the charges of land grabbing. The SIT had given its report to the state government in 2018, he said. However, the government did not reveal the SIT report and did not take any action on it, he said.

The CPI-M state secretary further said that the YSR Congress government had also constituted a SIT in 2019 and the report was available to the government in 2020. However, the YSR Congress government too did not reveal the SIT report, Srinivasa Rao said.

He said that the TDP government had received complaints of land grabbing in 12 mandals around Visakhapatnam in North Andhra region. The officials have conducted enquiry but did not reveal the facts, he said.

It was alleged that the MLAs, MPs, their supporters, their family members were resorting to land grabbing. They were grabbing the government land and the lands be3longing to the poor people, the CPI-M secretary said.

He said that people across the state were complaining about the land grabbing even now in the TDP-led NDA government. He said that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had asked the IAS officers and the district collectors to give him reports on the land grabbing in their districts.

However, the chief minister is now silent on the issue and is not asking the collectors for the report. He wondered why the government is silent on the issue. He wanted the government to conduct judicial enquiry into the land grabbing charges. He wanted the government to take back the lands grabbed by the politicians and distribute the same to the landless poor.
