YSR Congress spokesperson Kommuuri Kanaka Rao slammed TDP stating that it lacks the moral right to talk about housing for the poor.
Speaking to the media at the party central office, Kanaka Rao highlighted the large-scale corruption under Chandrababu Naidu’s regime in the TIDCO housing scheme. Naidu’s government imposed heavy financial burdens on the poor, forcing them to pay lakhs for incomplete houses, while YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government fulfilled the dream of home ownership by providing houses for just Rs 1, he said.
He revealed that under the TDP regime, the construction costs of TIDCO houses were inflated through corrupt practices, burdening beneficiaries with monthly payments for up to 20 years. He said that TDP has been exploiting the poor by charging advance payments and failing to deliver basic amenities. In contrast, Jagan’s government completed the houses with basic facilities like water, roads, and electricity and delivered them free of cost to over 1.43 lakh families.
The YSRCP government also took significant steps to reduce construction costs through reverse tendering, saving Rs 392 crores in public funds. Free registration for houses and subsidies further reduced the financial burden on beneficiaries. Kanaka Rao highlighted that while TDP left thousands of houses incomplete by 2019, Jagan’s administration completed over 1.24 lakh houses and distributed 30.75 lakh house site pattas.
He urged TDP leaders to acknowledge their failures and learn the facts before making baseless allegations. He said Jagan’s government has set a new standard in welfare by empowering the poor and ensuring that no family is left without a home.
