Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday asked the district collectors to have a new mechanism to clear encroachments in irrigation tanks, canals and rivulets. He wanted them to have a system that would work like HYDRA in Hyderabad, which is clearing encroachments of the tanks and canals.
The chief minister felt that the floods to Khammam and Mahaboobabad districts were mostly due to encroachment of tanks and canals. Several streams in the two districts were encroached leading to flooding and inundation of the habitations, the chief minister felt.
The chief minister also directed the district collectors to have special advocates to take up cases of encroachments of irrigation tanks and canals. He wanted them to get the cases, if any, cleared and also clear the encroachments.
The chief minister directed the district collectors to issue new pattadar passbooks and registration documents, which were washed away in the floods. He told the officials of the revenue and other departments to complete this process at the earliest. He wanted the district collectors to take lead in giving passbooks and registration documents to the people on a war footing.
The chief minister told the officials to take up road repair works in the districts where roads network was damaged due to floods. He also wanted the National Highways Authority of India to get in and repair the national highways which were damaged in the floods.
Revanth Reddy blamed the previous BRS government for its Mission Kakatiya. He said that it was Commission Kakatiya and the ministers have looted the programme. They have sold the sand and mud in the irrigation tanks, he alleged.
