The army had entered the scene to fill the breaches to the Budameru rivulet. There are ten breaches to the Budameru bunds on both sides. There are seven breaches to the right-side bund and three breaches to the left side bund.
The breaches filling works were given to the Srinivasa Constructions and Megha Engineering works. They have engaged trucks in large numbers and taking stones, and gravel from the Kondapally stone quarry. So far two breaches were filled and the others are being worked.
There are three breaches to the bund on the left side. The third breach at the Kavuluru in Ibrahimpatnam Mandal is the largest. It stretches to 100 meters. As the flood is still there the officials are struggling to fill the gap.
The seven breaches to the right-side bund on G Konduru side are to be filled to save Vijayawada from floods. The officials are working on this. Minister for Irrigation, Nimmala Rama Naidu is closely monitoring the work. He is camping at the site near Ibrahimpatnam and interacting with the officials on the progress of the work.
Meanwhile, the army personnel have come from Chennai and Hyderabad. The 6th battalion staff from Chennai and Regimental battalion from Secunderabad have reached Budameru on Friday evening. Over 120 army personnel have come to the site. They are working on filling the breaches along with the personnel from the contractors.
