The government would promote direct flights to Dubai and Singapore from Vijayawada airport, said Union Minister for Civil Aviation, K Ram Mohan Naidu. The Union Minister inaugurated the link road connecting the airport entrance with the Kolkata-Chennai national highway.
Speaking o9n the occasion, the Central Minister said that chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and deputy chief minister K Pawan Kalyan have requested him to increase flight services from Vijayawada airport. They have also requested him to see that connectivity to Vijayawada airport is increased in the years to come, the minister said.
The Minister said that IndiGo service to Delhi was also introduced on Saturday. In the last three months several flights were added to Vijayawada airport, the minister said. He said that he was holding consultations with the flight services companies in the country to connect Vijayawada airport with other cities. He said that three new services were added to the Vijayawada airport in the last three months, the Minister said.
He said that the passengers have also increased to the Vijayawada airport in the last three months. While it was just 85,000 passengers per month earlier, the number had gone up to 1 lakh passengers per month in the last three months, the Union Minister said.
The Minister further said that the ministry was also promoting plantation in the airports. They have set the target of planting over 80,000 saplings in the country this year. They have already planted 1000 saplings in Vijayawada airport, the Minister said.
The Minister also said that they would complete the integrated terminal in the Vijayawada airport by next year. The works on the integrated terminal were in progress, the Minister said.
