The Telangana cabinet had decided to give legal sanctity to HYDRA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection) in the next Assembly session. In the meanwhile, it would bring out an Ordinance for the existence and functioning of HYDRA.

The state cabinet which met under the chairmanship of chief minister A Revanth Reddy, decided to give the legal sanctity to the HYDRA. The HYDRA is currently functioning based on a GO. Some people are challenging the decisions of the HYDRA in the court and thus causing obstructions to its functioning.

The HYDRA would protect the waterbodies in Hyderabad. It had already started clearing encroachments along the water bodies including tanks and canals in and around Hyderabad. The cabinet also decided to appoint 169 employees from other departments. It would also recruit over 940 outsourcing employees for its functioning.

The cabinet also delegated some powers of the municipalities and other departments to the HYDRA. The HYDRA would now cover 27 municipalities around Hyderabad, besides 51 village panchayats that were merged with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The HYDRA would take care of all water bodies in and around Hyderabad. It would also focus on the water bodies in the Inner Ring Road and Outer Ring Road of Hyderabad.

The cabinet also decided to name the women university after Chakali Ilamma and Telugu University after Suravaram Pratap Reddy. The newly-formed Indian Institute of Handloom Technology would also be named after Konda Lakshman Bapuji.

The cabinet cleared the proposal to recruit over 3,000 teaching and non-teaching posts in the new medical colleges in the state. The state government would issue notification for the recruitment shortly. A government engineering college was permitted in Kosgi while a junior college was permitted for Hakimpet.
