Former Minister Gudivada Amarnath strongly criticized the TDP coalition government, holding it responsible for the tragic deaths caused by the recent floods in Vijayawada, stressing that these deaths were not accidents but a result of the government’s negligence.
Speaking to the media at the party camp office on Monday, the former minister said the state government failed to alert the public or take any precautionary measures despite receiving clear information and warnings about the impending floods. He added that this deliberate inaction led to the loss of lives, making it a case of criminal negligence.
Amarnath criticized the government for ignoring early warnings and not evacuating citizens to safety, despite the availability of several community halls and shelters. He highlighted the administration’s negligence, noting that over 45 people lost their lives, which he termed as “government-caused deaths.”
The former minister mentioned that during previous floods in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district, 18,000 families were successfully evacuated without any casualties, contrasting this with the current government’s failure in Vijayawada. He further stated that the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been using the disaster for publicity while neglecting the safety and well-being of the citizens.
Amarnath demanded that the government take full responsibility for the flood-related deaths and issue an apology to the affected families. He also urged the government to provide adequate relief to the victims and stop using diversionary tactics to shift blame onto political rivals.
