Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy had said that Journalists are social doctors. He said that journalists would cure all social ailments.
Revanth Reddy spoke to the journalists at Ravindra Bharathi on Sunday. He handed over a memo of handing over of 38 acres of land to the journalists for the housing. The chief minister said that the Congress government would treat journalists as friends. However, he said that the government would not tolerate anyone who writes anything without verifying the facts.
The chief minister said that the political parties were running the newspapers and news channels these days. The journalists in these papers and channels have become the party workers, he regretted. He further said that some people have started youtube channels and speaking nonsense. He wanted the true journalists to keep a check on such media houses.
The chief minister said that the government would give health cards to the journalists. The journalists working in Delhi would also get health cards and accreditation cards, the chief minister said. He announced Rs 10 crore fund to the Telangana Press Academy. He requested Press Academy chairman K Srinivasa Reddy to frame rules to help the journalists.
The chief minister also handed over financial assistance to the family members of journalists who died in the recent past. He said that the government would stand by the journalists and work for their welfare.
Minister for Information and Public Relations, Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said that the Congress government had made 1105 journalists a crore patis. He said that the previous BRS government did not allow the journalists to meet chief minister. But the present chief minister is accessible to everyone, he said.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, press academy chairman K Srinivasa Reddy, MPs Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Anil Kumar, MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy and several others were present.
