Deputy chief minister and Jana Sena president K Pawan Kalyan, said that the state government would appoint a committee to study the flood problem in the state. He said he spoke to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and requested him to constitute a committee.

The committee would tour entire state and study the flood problem wherever it is. The committee would also suggest measures to stop the flooding of the habitations, the deputy chief minister said. The deputy chief minister toured Gollaprolu village of Kakinada district. The area was submerged in the Yeleru floods recently.

He said that he was in touch with the district collector about the floods. He said he had directed the district administration to shift the people from the lowlying areas to the rehabilitation camps. The government would take up modernization of Yeleru project, he said and added that Sudda Vagu floods would also be controlled in the years to come. He said he would complete these two works during his tenure as MLA.

The deputy chief minister blamed the previous YSR Congress for purchasing lowlying lands for house sites in Gollaprolu. He said that the previous government had purchased 30 acres of land which maroons in every flood. The land height has to be raised to build houses in the colony, he said.

Pawan Kalyan said that the government had paid Rs 60 lakh per acre against just Rs 30 lakh market price. He alleged heavy corruption in the land purchase. The present government would  order probe in to the land purchases by the previous government, he said.

The deputy chief minister further said that people are not living in those colonies. They have not built houses despite the land allocation two years ago, he said. People are looking for the government to raise their lands and make them livable, he said.

Referring to Budameru floods in Vijayawada, the deputy chief minister said that before finding a solution to the problem, the government should find out encroachments along the rivulet. He said that the government would find encroachments and remove them all, before taking up any work.
